Introduction
Ellison’s powerful use of accurate and detailed imagery depicting the many aspects of black American life and culture in Invisible Man are the hallmarks of its success and widespread acclaim. Many scholars attest to this fact. Irving Howe (1952), critic for the New York Times writes that Invisible Man is, “drenched in Negro life, talk, music.” Thomas Jarrett (1954), noteworthy English scholar, writes that the novel is, “skillfully enmeshed with an effective treatment of southern rural life, a phase of Negro college life and a pointed… view of life in Harlem” (p. 422).
Locke (1953) takes a bold stand by saying that, “[Invisible Man] is in fact one of the best integrated accounts of interaction between whites and Negroes in American society that had yet been presented” (p. 35). And author and scholar Therman B. Odaniel writes that, “[Invisible Man is] perhaps the best balanced and most complete and comprehensive image of the American Negro that has yet been presented by any contemporary writer” (as cited in Reilly, 1970, p. 94). These voices demonstrate the breadth and depth of Ellison’s incorporation of accurate cultural detail into his novel. He writes with a perspective born from not only his heritage, but his research into the daily lives of black Americans.
Research on racial and gender stereotyping typically focuses on the role of one of these social categories at a time rather than race/gender combinations. We suggest that the relative non-prototypicality of Black women’s race and gender results in their “invisibility” relative to White women and to Black and White men. Two studies address whether Black women go “unnoticed” and their voices “unheard,” by examining memory for Black women’s faces and speech contributions. We found that photos of Black women were least likely to be recognized (Study 1), and statements said by a Black woman in a group discussion were least likely to be correctly attributed (Study 2) compared to Black men and White women and White men. The importance and implications of invisibility as a unique form of discrimination are discussed.
By studying the literature of foreign countries the aim of encouraging students to learn and be aware about foreigners traditions,custom may lay.So far, a wide range of opportunities have been created for young people to develop in all areas, to acquire modern knowledge and skills, foreign languages, to be healthy and well-rounded in all respects, to find a worthy place in life, especially to know foreign languages. It was a great historical event that in 1992, as one of the fruits of independence in our country, the Uzbek State University of World Languages was established and rebuilt on the basis of a special decision. In particular, young people are proud of the fact that more than 80% of girls are educated in the school, which was originally taught in 4 languages and today, more than 20 foreign languages. Here students get acquainted not only with the language of other nations, but also with their history, culture, spirituality, customs.In addition to this option:
“It is time to establish a new system of foreign language teaching in our country, which will be a solid foundation for the future. Since we have set ourselves the goal of building a competitive state, from now on school, high school, college and university graduates must be fluent in at least 2 foreign languages. This strict requirement should become the main criterion of the activity of the head of each educational institution, - said the President at a video conference with youth which was organized on May 6,2021.[6].1
The aim of the paper is to present some of what it is possible to discover about the actual status of black society during Ralph Waldo Ellison’s time and to consider how these data correspond to Ellison’s representation of “black’s place.” We intend to analyze the common features that tend to convey when defining the black’s personae in different contexts.
The actuality of the theme. We have chosen american-african writer Ralph Waldo Ellison’s because it can demonstrate that all societies experience the same, or similar, progresses. Trying to demonstrate that the black character is continuously being influenced by white’s judgments and social coactions. We will see that the ideal of liberty and freedom is illusionary and disappears when it matches stronger interests. Blacks were used, and are still being used, as a product or adjunct to confirm white’s reputation.
The tasks of the work. We put the following tasks forward:
To give brief refernce of the novel Invisible Man;
To give the hidden meanings of color,number and some words
To bring narrator’s characteristics and attitude towards whites to him in the work of Ralph Waldo Ellison;
To analyse the common features of black society in his works;
To demonstrate the factors influencing on black character;
The theoretical value of the work. The materials collected in the intention of describing the novel narrator’s images in Ralph Waldo Ellison’s work “Invisible Man” can be applied by those who are interested in English literature or who study the women role in the society.
The practical value of the work. The information brought into forth in the work are very useful for the students who study in English language and literature departments. Moreover, the analyses given in the work are practical for discourse analyses of the black character.
