As kids we all started off as having a big dream of growing up and becoming an astronaut, a

scientist or maybe even the president. But we all matured, now the real question is what do I
want to do for a living? This is an important thing to think about because it’s going to determine
your success in life. Not only does it have to be a good job, but it must fit into the person you
are. No one wants to go to work somewhere where they don’t even find it interesting or fitting to
them. That’s why it’s best to become something you love. For my career essay I want to get
into detail so I’m more familiar with my occupation personality and my chosen career path. The
goal is to learn new things about myself and my future job. A great way to make sure you’re
confident in pursuing a career is by doing some research, or even getting feedback from people
who have experienced the life of having that career.
Taking a personality test really identifies the fields that would match with any personality. I
always knew I wanted to be part of the medical field, but I learned that I don’t feel comfortable
being the person who must tell their patients any bad news. I feel I can give out a bad
impression of showing no sympathy, also I don’t feel like my personality should deal with other
people’s emotions. I do have a good trait of seeing other people’s points of views; therefore, I
would rather know the components to help in my career that doesn’t have a big variety of
situations. I want to be able to know or even try to find a way to make people feel better, and
that’s where practicing medicine (medical drugs) popped in my head. As of right now my major
is biology, I chose that as my major because it interests me how the body works, everything
works out the way it does for a certain reason it’s beautiful how it all comes together and makes
us who we are. I also found myself to be of an investigator, I get curious how things work. I also
love and good at math solving problems is a real stress reliever for me. Following a step by step
rules would make me feel more secure so I won’t second guess myself. I found in an article
from Career Explorer called “Pharmacists are investigative and conventional” and it talked
about the qualities some personality has that would fit into the pharmacy world. It stated “they
are quite inquisitive and curious people that often like to spend time alone with their thoughts.
They also tend to be conventional, meaning that they are usually detailed-oriented and
organized, and like working in a structured environment.” When it comes to working, I couldn’t
have described myself any better. After taking the Career Assessment my new career results
were a Dermatologist, Psychiatrist, and an Ophthalmologist. I found some interest in being a
Dermatologist because I can relate to having skin imperfections, my skin has come a long way
and it would be amazing to know how the skin really works. Helping others with their skin is
something I find myself being proud of becoming. I didn’t see myself as a Psychiatrist, they’re
people who treat mental illnesses. Being a doctor who specializes in diseases of the eye is iffy
for me because I have one bad eye and thinking about being at the eye doctor is a gamble
because I hate being the one getting examined.
The duty of being a pharmacist is handling medications and detecting therapeutic
incompatibilities. Therapeutic incompatibilities is something they prescribe, because the
medication they take has desirable and undesirable effects, so this fixes those effects like a
magic trick. They oversee filling prescriptions, meaning compounding, packaging and labeling
for patients, giving them advice, like how many doses they should be taking. And as the expert
in medication, I would talk to my patients, so I know how they’re doing with their prescription.
Pharmacist can also be involved in clinical programs or training other people. Related careers
from a pharmacist are a physician, nursing, and a medical scientist. A physician is a person who
practices medicine to find a cure kind of like a healer. As a nurse you take care of patients
individually. A medical scientist is a scientist who works to gain knowledge about the humane
body. Going back to a pharmacist their work environment can be in a drug store like a
Walgreens or they can also work in a hospital, or hospital facilities. Most of their time spent at
work is on their feet. As for the skills, I know I have a good strength in math and science, I may
need to study a bit more sometimes, but it does feel comfortable not overwhelming for me.
When I’m accurate when it comes to test/quizzes at school it feels good some of my stress is
relieved by that. An article from “Career Addict” by Siôn Phillpott, states the abilities a
pharmacist should have accuracy, integrity, science and math skills, interpersonal skills,
communication skills, advocacy, management skills, ability to multitask, prioritize, and an
analytical mind. As for the education I would need a doctor or professional degree, when I
transfer to UTEP I plan on joining a pharmacy program or anything that would help me get
ahead.
The median salary of a pharmacist is one hundred twenty-one thousand five hundred. The
lowest to higher pay would be eighty-nine thousand seven hundred ninety to one thousand fiftyfour and fourth dollars. An article called “Perseverance will lead to a stronger tomorrow” by
Marialice S. Bennett really gave me an inside look about what it’s like becoming a Pharmacist. I
found her article helpful in exploring a pharmacist career because she talks about her first
experience and how she turned out involved in that career. The growth rate resulted in “25%
between 2010 and 2020 and 30% by 2030.” An advancement possibility could be moving onto
a trending research program, this would be one of the related careers I listed which was a
Medical Scientist. I plan on executing this requirement by first finishing my associate’s degree
here at El Paso Community College, then transferring to UTEP and joining the Pharmacy
program, after I graduate, I know I have to apply to a Pharm.D. program which I want to do
some research about so I don’t lose any time. I learned more in detail the educational path to become a pharmacist. I also had a more descriptive reflection about the career of a Pharmacist, as for the other related careers. I gained some knowledge about a Dermatologist I found interesting. Finding out how I can advance from a Pharmacist opened excitement in me because a real success in life would be making a reputation for myself if I ever brought something new to help people. So this essay can be the basis of my introduction in pursuing the career of a Pharmacist.
