Read the following passage and answer the questions below. 
 
“Maria”, a ghostly voice whispered. It came from under the bed. “Come 
over here. Come over here
.”
Something began to push at the covers at the 
side of the bed and was trying to come out from underneath.
All hairs on the back of Maria’s neck were standing on end. Maria was 
trembling all over. She wanted to escape but still couldn’t move. It was like 
her feet had grown roots. All she could do was watch in horror as the thing 
under the bed started to come out. First, a white hand came out then a second 
hand joined it. Soon the whole creature would be free. “Your time has come, 
Maria”.
It was all too much fo
r her. Her legs turned to jelly. “Please,” Maria said, 
holding her hands up in front of her eyes. “Please don’t hurt me. I don’t want 
to die.”
“It’s too late, Maria,” said the 
growling 
voice from under the bed. “You 
should have never come into this hous
e.” The creature didn’t finish because it 
had started to laugh. This didn’t sound like the laughter ghosts might make 
but that of two people who were really enjoying themselves.
