In ancient times the home environment was often the only place where most children were taught but as the world modernized. It became harder for parents to teach their children and still make a living, so they realized it was easier to send their children to school because it offered to teach the children for them. As a result, the school environment played a greater role in disciplining, socializing and educating children than the home environment for various reasons.

The school environment is stricter in terms of discipline than the home environment. For example, the school environment demands that children wear specific clothing. For instance, boys may be required to wear a shirt and pants to school and Girls may be required to wear a shirt, skirt, or overalls to school depending on their age. However, while at home children can wear whatever they want. In addition, Schools enforce strict schedules for students to follow throughout the day. For instance, Students are told when to Eat, Study and go home. This strict scheduling is nonexistent at home; Some parents simply are not able to monitor their children even if they did set up a schedule for them. Furthermore, schools do not allow students to leave their premises at any time. A child can leave when school ends or if there is a valid reason to leave school. In contrast, households are a lot more lenient about when their children leave the home. These factors show that the school environment is a greater disciplinarian than the home environment.
The school environment is more involved in the education of children than the home environment. For example, Schools are known to teach several different subjects such as Mathematics, English, Social studies or Physics. These topics help to Broden the student's knowledge and help to guide then as they seek higher education. While in contrast teaching is nonexistent in the home environment. Parents are often too busy to teach their children. Another example is that Schools give their students regular tests. Sometimes these tests are given at the end of a term or during the term. They show if a student understands the things they are learning or if they are having difficulties in any areas. Meanwhile, in the home environment, children never receive any kind of test because most parents are not concerned about whether their child is learning or not. Schools also give students homework. Homework forces students to review the things they have learned. It also acts as a study guide for students when they have upcoming tests. Whereas the home environment often neglects revision, and the child is left to review on their own. By giving students homework, tests and lots of teaching, schools show they are more concerned about a child's educational development than the home environment.

The school environment is more effective in the socialization of students than the home environment. For example, Schools expose children to hundreds of other children. Whether it's during lunch, class time, or after school. By interacting with so many children they socialize and create friendships with other peers. Whereas at home interactions with so many peers simply are not possible. Even if a child was to leave their home. The chances of socialization are still slim depending on where they live. Furthermore, Schools sometimes force students to socialize by making them do group projects with other classmates or by making them join at least one of their school clubs. While in contrast, the home environment does not enforce socialization; interaction with other children outside or inside the home is left up to the child, in fact, some children are forced to stay inside the home, which reduces the chance of socialization. Socialization between children is more likely to happen in the school environment than in the home environment.

These three points mentioned above show that, unlike the ancient world. The modern world has become highly dependent on the school system to discipline, educate and socialize its children because parents are unable to find the time to do so. This is why schools will continue to be more involved in the development of children than the home environment for many years to come.
