In every country have historical places and a variety of museums, while majority of visitors are tourists who come to see them, not local people. In my opinion, there are several reasons of this issue and government can take some measures to encourage residents to visit.
The main factor is the various motivations of tourists and local people. For a tourist, the aim when visiting another country is to learn about new place. However, local residents have lived in that area for much of their lives, and have either learned this at school or understand it through personal experience. Moreover, people find it boring to visit such places and many of the museums and historical places charge an entry fee. If a person visited it once, they would avoid visiting it again because nobody want to pay again and again to watch the same place or artworks.
Despite this, government could encourage attendance of local people. Firstly, the perception of museums and historical sites could be changed by holding events at these places. For instance, they could hold cultural festivals for the community to celebrate a unique aspect of that place. Furthermore, residents should have some promotions, such as a reduced price or free tickets provided by their workplace for hard working employee.
In conclusion, citizens do not enjoy visiting museums or historical places because there is not much they can learn from these places. In spite of this the government can encourage more residents by conducting interesting events like national holidays or exhibitions at that places.
