How can governments make urban life better for everyone?

It is true that it is becoming increasingly common for people to move into cities looking for a higher quality of life despite the challenges of living in a city. While there are multiple problems related to urban living, in my opinion, a number of steps could certainly be taken by governments to improve the standard of living in the city.

To begin with, there exist certain issues associated with living in metropolitan areas. For a start, the cost of living in cities is higher than in rural areas that apartments’ rent prices in the capital two times higher than the countryside. Moreover, city life is more crowded and stressful compared to rural life. Therefore, some people may not enjoy peaceful life due to busyness. Moreover, air pollution that cities built with cars in mind generate pollution and promote unhealthy lifestyles. In Barcelona, private vehicles occupy 65% to 70% of the city’s space which they caused air pollution in rural area.

Nevertheless, I believe that a variety of measures could surely be implemented to tackle them. Firstly, governments can come up with some powerful regulations to restrict the number of people moving into cities. Secondly, governments should provide basic financial support to people migrating to cities, such as, providing them with some housing subsidy to lower their living cost and offering citizens with more public transportations to reduce their traffic expense. Finally, governments should set more funds to improving the economy of small towns and rural areas.

In conclusion, although certain problems of living in metropolises exist, it seems to me that the state authorities can definitely apply various solutions to alleviate them and enhance the standard of urban living
