Recent Research
1.Scientists at Queen Mary University of London and the University of Roehampton, London, have discovered that patients suffering from obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD) have increased levels of a protein called Immuno-modulini (I mood) in their lymphocytes, a type of immune cell. The findings have led the researchers to file a patent application for the antibody and they are now working with a drug company to develop a potential treatment for human patients.

2. In a recent study published in the Journal of Neurology, Neurosurgery & Psychiatry, researchers investigated the effectiveness of deep brain stimulation (DBS) against treatment-resistant obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). The study findings showed that DBS is a successful treatment for TROCD, and the typical patient will get a 50% reduction in OCD symptoms. With further follow-up, two-thirds of patients will experience at least a complete response to DBS therapy. In addition, the researchers believe that current limbic and non-limbic targets can be stimulated to reduce comorbid depressive symptoms in TROCD significantly.

3.Scientists from the Nara Institute of Science and Technology (NAIST), Advanced Telecommunications Research Institute international, and Tamaraw University have demonstrated that obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) can be understood as a result of imbalanced learning between reinforcement and punishment. This work can help improve mental health treatments of obsessive-compulsive disorder.
