On January 27, 2002, the Oliy Majlis decided to hold a referendum on the formation of a bicameral parliament in the next convocation. 2 issues on the ballot paper in the referendum: You agree that the next convocation will be the bicameral election of the Parliament of the Republic of Uzbekistan. You agree to extend the term of office of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan from 5 to 7 years.

The work of the Senate is based on the activities of senators who convene in plenary sessions and meetings of its committees. The term of office of the Senate is five years.
