1. In the author’s description; Irene was presented by the author in the passage Soames was bewildered of what his going to do to Irene because he was in excruciating pain due to Irene’s infidelity. In represented speech; Irene was depicted as a pathetic woman. She was in unbearable pain after the death of Bosiney and she has no choice but to come back to his husband Soames though she left him for her own worth. An unfaithful wife who return to her husband after having an educe relationship with other men.
2. Some examples of similes that the author used was “her eyes that looked enormous, like the great, wide, startled brown eyes of an owl”, Another is “she had come back like an animal wounded to death”, “Again he looked at her, huddled like a bird that is shot and dying,”
The metaphors that the author used in the excerpt are as follows: “the ghoulish cries mingled and jangled with the sound of those church bells, whose poor breast you see panting as the air is taken from it, firelight playing over her motionless figure, and the sight of her figure, huddled in the fur, was enough.”

4. The function of repetition on the passage was to emphasize a certain fact about a character and the scenarios in able for thee reader to understand and relate in the story. Another reason is for the reader to see how well the character do their function and see how they correlate to one another.
