It’s hard to imagine our lives without Internet nowadays. It has become an important part of every person’s life. It seems that Internet has created a whole new history. It has drastically changed everything around. Computers were also an important invention, but Internet is better than any other type of information. Besides, it’s not only used for information, but also for global communication. Originally, Internet was a military experiment in the USA of 60-s. But soon it became clear that everyone in the world can use it. Since the time of Internet appearance, many other media sources became unnecessary. From one side, it’s great to have everything right here online, from the other side, it’s a shame that people have stopped reading paper books and newspapers. That’s because all books or prints can be found online, as well as all films and programs. One of the obvious advantages of Internet is its efficiency. You can find the information you’re looking for in 5 seconds. Just google it and here is the answer. It is very convenient for students, professionals, experts and all other people. In spite of all the good sides that Internet has, there are some drawbacks. First of all, they are viruses, which can be very dangerous for any computer. That’s why it’s good to have reliable anti-virus software installed. Other minus is the violent content. As well as on TV, there is a lot of violence and cruelty online.

Nevertheless, every day millions of people turn on their computers and start surfing the worldwide net, because it’s the easiest and quickest way to stay informed. Internet is a great invention. It has changed the lives of nearly all people on our planet. Many things have become easier and can be done from the comfort of your own home. For example, people nowadays can order a takeaway food, they can buy clothes online, and they can even work online. Internet is a global world network, which has united people from different countries and of different backgrounds. Thanks to this network, we can chat with friends, meet new people and connect to our distant relatives via video calls. Shopping has become much easier. If you don’t have time to go to the store, you can order all the necessary products at the online store and they are delivered within a day. Same can be done with medical pills, railway tickets, shoes, dresses and any other items. In my opinion, it is very convenient. However, it seems that with the appearance of Internet people have become lazier. They rarely walk or do physical exercises. They don’t need to bother much if everything can be done with one click of a button. My family is a fan of active life, so we try to order online only urgent items. If we want to shop for food or clothes, we go to the nearest supermarket or mall. The question is why we need Internet. I mostly use it to chat with my friends, especially those who live in other towns. I also like communicating through social networks and reading books online. Other than that I find lots of educational information via Internet. Obviously, it is one of the most useful tools in the life of modern people. In my opinion, Internet is of great help in everyday life. We just need to learn how to separate useful information from useless. Moreover, we shouldn’t neglect live communication and sports.

The invention of the Internet in 1969 became an important breakthrough of the XX century. Since that time millions of people are using the internet everyday and can’t imagine their lives without it. This global network provides huge opportunities for communication. It helps us to stay in touch with our friends as well as helps us to make new friends around the world. More than that the Internet is the biggest storage of information that anyone can access any time they want. You can find any books, magazines, movies, music and videos in there.

In this way the Internet gives people advantages that we have never had before. The reverse side of the coin is the Internet has certain side ef-fects. First of all, electronic devices are fragile and attackable by the Inter-net viruses. It’s getting harder and harder to protect you personal data from this malicious software. Next problem is security. When we meet someone online we cant’s say for sure whether it’s a real person or not and it’s just someone who tries to look like a different person. This is especially dangerous when it comes to children who are so trustful. I can also mention Internet fraud and spamming. Needless to say that con-stant use of a computer and smart phones plus endless surfing the Internet are simply bad for your health. I think that every Internet user knows about all these disadvantages. But what can we do? We have to pay this price for the opportunity to have all the blessings of civilization.

After the Internet was invented our world has changed completely. People’s life has changed so much that this modern generation doesn’t fully understand the way people used to live before the invention. Nowadays you don’t even have to leave the house in order to get any kind of information within minutes, to watch a movie or to listen to music, to find a job or to get an education, to talk to your friends that are living in the other part of the world, to make money, to buy anything or to order any service, to find a partner for life, to play games and much, much more.

As always when something new is invented the society usually rejects it, especially when it comes to older generation because it is more conservative. You can often hear them saying that we have been living without internet all this time and we can continue doing so. In order to justify their words they start making up cases and use the tiniest disadvantages of the invention neglecting the fact that it has a lot of advantages. Their arguments are following: your money can be stolen with the help of the internet, children can find some forbidden information there etc. Yes, all that can happen but if you follow the commendations and protect your computer from viruses, if you are not naive and don’t believe conmen, if you explain to you children how they should behave online then the chances that something bad happens are close to zero. In return we will get a great service that gives us lots of opportunities. With all this in mind, of course I believe that the Internet is a friend. We should be grateful to the inventors of this service that has changed our life for the better big time. Can you imagine life without the Internet? If we ask someone this question, the answer most probably will be no. People have become so dependent on this modern mechanism of information exchange, that they simply can’t imagine a day without Internet. They connect even their mobile phones to global web to seek for new information every single minute. For example, my sister follows the daily updates of every social network she is registered to. She posts pictures, write comments, chats with friends, makes video calls. Sounds habitual for most people, you’d say, but she does it all the time, even when she is at school. Her teachers go harsh on her for this reason. They ask her to leave the mobile phone at home. In my opinion, they are right. I don’t use it during the classes and I rarely surf the Internet, only when I need to look up the word or phrase which needs to be translated. The main advantage of the global web is the opportunity to connect to the world. My teacher says it’s called globalization and Internet is the main tool. On the other hand, Internet seems to increase the distance between people. People see each other less in real life. Another disadvantage is that we read paperback books and magazines less. We can find any story or article online nowadays. However, I know that reading from the monitor is not healthy at all. You can do it only if you have special anti-reflective glasses. In my opinion, people should spend less time online and more offline. Pretty much everything in this world can be used for good and for bad. The same is true for the Internet as well because it can be used very successfully for greater good and at the same time it can be a waste of your time.

It’s remarkable but the majority of Internet users do not use any of great opportunities of this worldwide network. For example, my kind of young uncle who lives alone always calls my mother, his sister, and asks how to cook this or that. It’s surprising that he finished school with all As back in the days and then graduated from community college having good grades and now he cannot figure out how to use YouTube in order to watch the video that explain the cooking process. He spends days playing Tanks and wasting his time. The Internet for him consists of this one game and one platform that he uses to watch movies where he spends the rest of his free of video game time. Of course, for people like my uncle the Internet is a waste of time. And there are a lot of people like my uncle who watch some funny or «shocking» videos what they get from their friends on social media, waste time playing video games, scroll through their newsfeed created by their friends and groups they follow for hours etc.

But I know lots of people who use the Internet not only as an entertainment but for education, business, self-expression and other things as well. For example, my father has frequently visited car repair website and my mother has an Instagram blog for English learners. Even my grandfather who has been collecting stamps for all his life communicates a lot with his colleagues all over the world and exchanges stamps. Everyone can find useful things online and not waste his precious lifetime.
