What do you consider to be the applicant’s strengths?

Perhaps, one of the greatest strengths of Murodjon, out of many, is his appetite to achieve his goals. As an English teacher of him for around eight years, I have always seen him sticking to his goals, thereby working hard all the time, striving to overcome every obstacle he faces along the way, and easily dominating over his peers in many ways. Therefore, every time I think of him, my mind spontaneously draws a picture of a big, green tree that is never going to stop growing, until it reaches the skies. Also, Murodjon has a brilliant and lightning quick mind; for instance, during his language learning, he has almost never struggled to acquire new words, grammar rules and apply them in practice. And this is not just limited to language learning, but he has proved his strong mental abilities by excelling at every subject at school.

How well do you think the applicant has prepared for undergraduate study?
|
With no hesitation, I would say that Murodjon is ready for undergraduate study for several factors. In my eight years of working with him, he has demonstrated the qualities necessary for high success in the demanding academic atmosphere of a high caliber university as well as the social skills needed to be successful in university. Firstly, he has excellent self-awareness skills: he knows his strengths and vulnerabilities. When he has struggled to keep up with the course (it happened just a few times), he was never shy to seek assistance, either from me or anyone else, fully admitting his weakness. What is also quite striking about him is that in stressful situations, he immediately dives into tackling his problems himself, or at least ask for support, but he never withdraws or isolate himself. I feel that it is a rare gift in a person of any age; in someone just over 17, it is breathtaking. Additionally, he manages his time, actions, and plans incredibly, and I truly realized how awesome his management skills are, when he was working part-time as a volunteer receptionist in my language school: he was capable of completing the home assignments and academic projects on time with excellent quality, even though he always seemed to me to have almost no time for studying. He also cares about his daily and social life, eating healthily and regularly as well as allocating time for his family and friends either for entertainment or for serious discussions. I firmly believe that he will definitely manage his undergraduate study at ease.

Murodjon has always been a top excelling student of mine since I started teaching him, and he has proved this not only to me, but also to many other people. He has been a prominent attendee of an annually-held competition named “Competition of Knowledge” among students across my country, testing his knowledge in English; he actually won the competition two times on a regional level in 2017 and 2018, attracting two Prime Ministers of Education of Uzbekistan (U. Inoyatov and Sh. Shermatov) who awarded him with a diploma of excellence. Apart from his strong academic performance, he has also demonstrated his gifted talent as well as dedication and vigor to teach English to his peers and young learners. Actually, I have discovered this when I hired him as my personal assistant. From the very beginning, he showed responsibility towards his job, ensuring that everything was completed in a timely manner and to his extremely high standards; he checked students’ home tasks on time, giving them useful feedback and trying to improve their weak areas. He immediately added new taste into the lessons by applying innovative technology and interacting activities in them without getting a prior guidance from me, which made me fascinated greatly. One thing which is also worth-mentioning is that he has an awesome ability to take an introverted and quiet student and actively engaging with him or her, transforming that student into an active member of the class, which is, in my view, a must for a successful ESL teacher. Because of him, I saw a significant positive change in the personality of some of my students, who used to struggle to communicate their thoughts in English. Furthermore, Murodjon is a source of new ideas. For instance, three months ago, he came up with a wonderful offer that organizing Sunday workshops for young English learners would come in handy in order to motivate them to study and learn more. Over the last three months, he has been kindly volunteering to achieve this. He is a great personality I admire hugely. Teachers and students enjoy him in classes.
Overall, Murodjon is an intelligent, well-rounded, and grounded individual who challenges himself and actively seeks new opportunities and experiences. He has the determination, maturity, and intelligence to succeed in any endeavor and always maintains a positive attitude.
