  • In order to overcome stress, some phychologists recommend doing nothing at all for a period of time during the day. To what extend do you agree or disagree?

It is commonly recommended by physiologists that inactivity is beneficial in order to eliminate stress. I partly disagree with this argument due to manifold reasons.

Firstly, idle moment could be egregious as it would create a state of indolence. To illustrate, this practice can highly diminish the status of body and mind. In addition, this method might serve as useless for many people as it lacks any sort of mental and physical stimulation. For instance, unlike meditation which could ameliorate the sense of mind, being idle leads to drowsiness. Therefore, the benefit, in this case, might not be as productive as we expected. Additionally, people are more likely to fabricate detrimental thoughts while staying inactive. As a result, this could bring about infelicitous outcomes. Thus, being involved in a particular activity could be paramount for those who are willing to avoid stress.



On the other hand, there are numerous benefits to doing nothing. To commence with, the brain, like other human body parts, requires time to repair the damaged tissues. The brain works in a manner similar to a machine. Irrefutably, should we overload it with numerous involvements, it will collapse at one stage then. Furthermore, we can divert our mind towards good milestones with the help of inactivity. Equally, we could utilize this time to build up friendship among loved ones. Ironically, those who spend plethora of time with their family have considerably reduced the risk of developing cardiac problems.

In conclusion, while it does not seem to me that such relaxation is effective for every individual to deal with daily stress, an occasional break will assist to bring peace to mind and life.
