Independence day of Uzbekistan

Presentation by Zilola Muydinova (group 103 A)

In 1991, the August Coup in the Soviet capital of Moscow caused many Soviet republics to declare their independence from the Soviet Union. President of the Uzbek SSR, Islam Karimov declared Uzbekistan independent from the USSR on 31 August 1991. That same day, the Supreme Soviet of Uzbekistan adopted a resolution on the declaration of independence of the Republic of Uzbekistan and a law on the state independence of Uzbekistan.

Once the laws were signed by Karimov , the uzbekSSR were renamed to the Republic of Uzbekistan . The next day was then declared a national holiday, and day off from work by the government .

In 1992, Independence Day was celebrated for the first time.

It honoured the 5th anniversary of independence. It was on this year that President Karimov awarded the title of Hero of Uzbekistan for the first time.

The Monument to the Independence of Uzbekistan is a Tashkent monument made in honor of the independence of Uzbekistan.

After the proclamation of Uzbekistan's independence in September 1991, "Lenin Square" was renamed in 1992 as "Mustaqillik Maydoni", which translates to "Independence Square" in English.

Each region (there are 12 regions in Uzbekistan) prepare various festive programs. Wherever you find yourself this day, you will find a fascinating sight: performances of original folk groups, excitable sports events, various shows and noisy craft fairs.

The capital of Uzbekistan is preparing to the celebration in advance, because the festive show, which takes place on the main square of the country, the Independence Square, is so spectacular and grandiose that it just takes one’s breath away.

Independence Day is a time when the people of Uzbekistan remember the long captivity under Russian and Soviet control and are thankful for their newfound freedom, which is still relatively recent from a historical perspective.
