Gestures and facial expressions (non-verbal communication) - is the fact that the speaker closely connects his feelings and thoughts with various actions. They appear spontaneously, based on the content of speech. Rhythmically combined with intonation, accents and pronunciations, gestures help to draw the audience's attention to one or another part of the speech, to determine the speaker's attitude to the ideas expressed. In the theory of public speaking there is a classification of deeply produced gestures used by speakers. Gestures can be divided into the following types: rhythmic, emotional, demonstrative-reconstructing, pointing, figurative, symbolic and others. It is necessary to know how to use reconstructive, pointing gestures in the practice of excursions. Demonstrative gestures can be made with glances, head movements, fingers. The primary role in the gestures is given to the hands. It is recommended to use a pointing gesture when there are objects that can be shown (monument, fragment of monument, memorial board, object of nature). Reconstructive gestures help tourists visualize an unsaved building and structure. With these gestures, the guide should be able to create the imaginations that tourists need.

Pointing gestures ensure that tourists are positioned correctly in front of the objects. They are used to direct the group's movements from one object to another, to get off the bus or, conversely, to take their seats.

In addition to the necessary (necessary) gestures, the guide must have an understanding of meaningless, "parasitic" gestures. They, like parasitic words, negatively affect speech and distort its meaning. These include repetitive head movements, hair straightening, button play, head scratching, and more. Such repetitive movements tire the listeners.

The guide should carefully observe not only his speech, but also his gestures, which are the language of nonverbal communication. Because more or less the effectiveness of the guide's relationship with the group depends on them. The rules of conscious, expressive use of gestures are similar to the rules of good tone: they are not born with them, they are studied and become the norm of life.

An important indicator of a speaker's emotions is his facial expressions. Mimics allows listeners to better understand the speaker, to understand what emotions they are experiencing. Facial expressions can convey many emotions and experiences: joy, sorrow, hatred, surprise, amazement, hesitation. Facial expression should be appropriate to the nature of the speech. Dullness and coldness on the face of the guide have a negative effect on tourists. The speaker's face should shine in front of the audience.
