Competence in language areas

Graphics and orthography

Can produce clearly intelligible graphic text organization which follows orthography convention allowing some slips.



Phonetic side of speech

Can vary intonation and place sentence stress correctly in order to express finer shades of meaning.



Lexical side of speech

Have a good command of a broad lexical repertoire allowing gaps to be readily overcome with circumlocutions; little obvious searching for expressions or avoidance strategies; good command of idiomatic expressions and colloquialisms; occasional minor slips, but no significant vocabulary errors.

Grammatical side of speech

Consistently maintains a high degree of grammatical accuracy; errors are rare and difficult to spot.





Sociolinguistic competence

Can select language forms, use them in accordance with scientific, professional highly specialized context within the topic based content of speech.





Discourse competence

Be skilled at using contextual, grammatical and lexical cues to infer attitude, mood and intentions and anticipate what will come next.



Strategic competence

Can use language flexibly and effectively for social purposes, including emotional, allusive and joking usage.



Sociocultural competence

Know non-equivalent professional, scientific lexis and understand it in authentic, professional, highly specialized scientific texts (including with the help of reference books); recognize the lexis denoting objects and subjects related to professional, highly specialized and scientific spheres in the target countries; know speech and etiquette formulas and ability to construct language behavior in accordance with professional communication norms accepted in the target countries within the framework of communicative settings based on the content of speech.



Social competence

Can demonstrate social interaction based on moral and legal norms accepted in the society, demonstrating respect to people, tolerance to other culture, readiness to bear responsibility for supporting relations based on partnership and trust.



Study/learning competence

Can work autonomously during classes, at home, in a library etc., can organise various forms of work and all professional performance as a whole based on modern educational technologies for acquiring, processing and using necessary information from authentic professional sources.
