French

Interest in studying French reached a peak in 
1995.

There was a steady decline in the number of 
students studying French from 1995 to 2010.
Spanish

During the early 1990s, interest in studying 
Spanish went up slightly, then declined 
somewhat.

A dramatic increase in the number of 
students taking Spanish classes took place 
from 2000 to 2015.
German

During this entire period, the number of 
students learning German remained about 
the same.

There was a slight dip in this number after 
2010.
Chinese

Between 2000 and 2005, the number of 
students enrolled in Chinese classes soared. 

After 2005, it increased more gradually.
