Lesson 3



Stone Soup

A monk is on his way home.

He is very hungry.

He asks people in the town for food.

“Do you have some food?” he asks.

“I’m sorry.” they all say.


“We have no food here.”

The people in the town do not know him.

They hide their food and do not tell the monk.

The monk looks at the people in the town.

He has an idea.

The monk says to the people, “You are hungry. So I will make stone soup for you.”

“Stone soup? What’s that?” the people ask.

The monk says, “Bring me some stones and a pot. Let’s make a fire.”

The monk puts the stones in a pot of water and starts to cook them.

Everyone watches.


“This is good soup, but stone soup is better with salt and pepper,” says the monk.
“I don’t have any.”

A young boy gets some salt and pepper for the soup.

“Now it is very good,” says the monk.

“But stone soup is always better with some vegetables.”


An old woman says, “I have some vegetables.”

She goes to get them, and she puts them in the pot.

“This smells good,” says the monk.

“But best stone soup needs some meat and more vegetables.”


A young man says, “I have some meat.”

He goes and gets the meat and puts it in the pot.

Other people bring some more vegetables.

Soon the people can eat the soup.

They love stone soup.

“Stone soup is the best,” says an old man.

“Now we know about stone soup.

We will never be hungry, “says the old man.

“Thank you.”

Everyone dances and sings all night.

The next day, the monk walks out of the town.

The people in the town come to say goodbye.

The monk laughs.

“It is very easy to make stone soup,” he thinks.



Rohib uyga qaytayotgan edi.

Uning qorni juda ham och.

U shahardagi odamlardan ovqat so‘raydi.

“Yeyishga ovqatingiz bormi?” so‘raydi u.

“Kechirasiz.”- deydi ularning hammasi.

“Bizda ovqat yo‘q.”

Shahardagi odamlar uni bilishmaydi.

Ular ovqatini yashirishadi va rohibga aytishmaydi.

Rohib shahardagi odamlarga qaraydi.

Unda bir g`oya bor.

Rohib odamlarga deydi: “Sizlarning qorningiz och. Shuning uchun men sizlarga tosh sho‘rva tayyorlab beraman.”

“Tosh sho‘rvasi? Nima u?”- deb so‘rashadi odamlar.

Rohib aytadi, “Menga qozon va bir qancha tosh olib kelinglar. O‘t yoqamiz.”

Rohib toshlarni suv quyilgan qozonga soladi va pishirishni boshlaydi.

Hamma tomosha qilib turadi.

“Bu ajoyib sho‘rva, lekin tosh sho‘rva tuz va murch bilan yaxshiroq bo‘ladi.” deydi rohib.

“Menda xech qanday tuz yo‘q.”

Yosh yigit biroz tuz va murch olib keladi.

“Endi bu juda ham yaxshi,” deydi rohib.

“Lekin tosh sho‘rva doim sabzavotlar bilan yaxshiroq bo‘ladi.”

Qari ayol aytadi, “Menda biroz sabzavotlar bore di.”

U olib kelib qozonga tashlaydi.

“Buning hidi yaxshi,” deydi rohib.

“Lekin eng zo‘r tosh sho‘rvaga biroz go‘sht va ko‘proq sabzavotlar kerak bo‘ladi.”

Yosh bir kishi aytadi, “Menda biroz go‘sht bor.”

U ham borib go‘shtni olib kelib qozonga tashlaydi.

Boshqa odamlar ko‘proq sabzavotlar olib kelishadi.

Tez orada odamlar sho‘rvani tatib ko‘rishadi.

Ular tosh sho‘rva yoqadi.

“Tosh sho‘rva juda ham zo‘r ekan.” deydi qari kishi.

“Endi biz tosh sho‘rva haqida bilamiz.

Endi xech qachon och qolmaymiz.” deydi qari kishi.

“Rahmat.”

Hamma tuni bilan raqsga tushib kuylaydi.

Ertasi kuni rohib shahardan tashqariga chiqib ketadi.

Shahardagi odamlar u bilan xayrlashgani chiqadi.

Rohib kuladi.

“Tosh sho‘rvani tayyorlash juda ham oson ekan,” u o‘ylaydi.
