The Lighthouse of Alexandria was a tower built in the 3rd century BC on the island of Pharos in Alexandria, Egypt, to serve as that port's landmark, and later, its lighthouse. With a height variously estimated at between 115 and 135 m (380 and 440 ft) it was the world's third tallest building. Stonehenge Stonehenge is a prehistoric monument located in the English county of Wiltshire, about 3.2 kilometres west of Amesbury and 13 kilometres north of Salisbury. One of the most famous sites in the world, Stonehenge is composed of earthworks surrounding a circular setting of large standing stones and sits at the centre of the densest complex of Neolithic and Bronze Age monuments in England, including several hundred burial mounds.
