ZEUGMA is a figure of speech that uses one word in order to refer two or more completely distinct words or phrases together. This literary device may either confuse the reader or may raise their interest to the work or a context by letting them think more deeply.
However, if the work is considered to be well written, then the reader undoubtedly achieves the latter one.
Example#1 He opened his mind and his wallet every time he went out with her
So, in the example given above the author was going to say “… opened his mind and opened his wallet…” However, using zeugma in this example simplified the sentence and gave much more shocking effect rather than using the verb “opened” two times.
Zeugmas can be used not only in literary works but also in everyday conversations so as to add emotions, create drama or raise your listener’s interest to your talk.
Example#2 On our first date I held my breath and the car door for her

Zeugma, it has become clear that, when zeugma goes wrong the reader of the work may not understand what was the real meaning of that context and they find themselves in somehow misplaced modifier territory. That is, it is apparent that something is going to be modified, but it is unclear what the thing, especially word is.
All in all it can be concluded that, zeugma is not only figure of speech, but also can be dramatic, fun or even humorous type of literary device that raise the reader’s interest to literary work.
