LECTURE 8. THE MAIN TENDENCIES OF THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE 

ROMANCE AND GERMAN LANGUAGES 

 

Summary  of  the  lecture.  The  survey  of  linguistic  peculiarities  of  changes  of  the  Romance-

Germanic  Languages  can  show  how  the  languages  improved  and  acquired  their  common  and 

particular  features  of  their  development.  Some  important  stages  of  developments  must  have 

occurred  during  as  a  gradual  historical  process  while  some  degree  of  unity  still  existed  among 

the various peculiarities in the  functionality of the Romance-Germanic languages. Certain other 

changes  shared  by  the  Romance  and  Germanic  languages  might  have  postdated  the  linguistic 

separation and the further distinct development their language forms at a later date.
