Nathanael's end
Eventually, Nathanael wakes up at home. His mother and Clara are with 
him. Apparently he got over the madness. Clara is very happy about 
Nathanael's recovery. The two want to marry and move with their mother 
and Lothar to an estate that the family inherited from an uncle.
"Nathanael (...) became aware of Coppelius and with the piercing cry: 'Ha!
Sköne Oke - Sköne Oke', he jumped over the railing. When Nathanael lay on 
the cobblestones with his head shattered, Coppelius was in a throng
gone.” (p. 62)
Shortly before the move, the four are once again out on errands in the city. 
When they pass the town hall, Clara really wants to climb the tower. 
Nathanael accompanies them while Lothar waits for them both downstairs 
and the mother continues on her way home. Once at the top, Clara draws 
Nathanael's attention to a gray bush that seems to be moving towards her. 
As usual, Nathanael reaches into his pocket for the binoculars he bought 
from Coppola. He looks through - then Clara comes into his

View. At this moment, the memory of the past awakens in him and the 
young man again loses his nerve. Believing he has Olimpia in front of him, 
he grabs Clara and wants to throw her over the railing. She resists 
desperately. Lothar notices the fight from below and rushes up the stairs to 
save his sister. He also manages to snatch her from Nathanael and bring her 
downstairs safely. But Nathanael rages on in the gallery of the tower. In the 
meantime, more and more people have gathered on the market square to 
watch the spectacle - among them the lawyer Coppelius. When Nathanael 
sees his old adversary from the tower, he throws himself screaming "Sköne 
Oke!" into the deep.
