Module: Writing. Topic: Opinion essay. Time: 80 minutes. Aims: ~To increase students’ knowledge to write opinion essay. ~To introduce points for structuring opinion essay. Materials: Successful writing, net websites Warm-up: (15 minutes) Procedure: ~Ask students to work with a partner or with a table group and conseder how they would respond when I distribute an essay topic. ~They will have strong fillings but direct them to ginerate a list of reasons for their position. ~ Share responses and decide on 3 main reasons as a class. Write them on the board. ~Tell students that they just created an outline for an opinion essay. ~Discuss possible titles for essay.
Activity 1 Fact and Opinion. Objective; to help students to clarify facts and opinions . Times 15 minutes. Materials: Handout 1. Procedure: ~Tell students to work individually. ~Distribute handouts. ~Ask students to fill in the handout according to their opinions. ~After finishing, ask students to share their answers in plenary. ~Check them
Suggested answer: 1 Fact. 6 Opinion. 2 Opinion. 7 Opinion. 3 Fact. 8 Fact. 4 Opinion. 9 Fact. 5 Opinion. 10 Opinion .
Activity 2. Writing down the appropriate topic of each paragraph of one opinion essay . Objective; To develop their ability to find out suitable title for the paragraph. Times: 10 minutes. Materials: Handout 2. Procedure: ~Put students to work in a partner. ~Ask them to find appropriate topic of each paragraph . ~Discussing with each other. ~After that we discuss all of topic and choose the best ones.
Suggested answer: ~Opinion their roles. ~Not testing person’s knowledge. ~Unfair to people. ~The most efficient way. ~Only one chance. In my view –in my opinion. In the first place – firstly. Furthermore –moreover. It is argued that- people argue that. In conclusion - to sum up
Activity 3 Writing their oponions with reasons. Objective; To help students gather their opinions, ideas. Times: 20 minutes. Materials: Papers Procedure: ~To tell students write down their opinions with reasons ~They have a topic and small paragraphs so that they should complete this essay with their opinions ~To ask them to read their composition on the topic
