Handout 2 Module: Methodology. Topic: Listening skill. Lesson: Teaching listening in foreign language. Time: 80 minutes. Aims: ~To help students improve their listening skills, develop their ability to communicate. Warm up: 15minutes. Procedure: Put on the CD player and let students hear an english song. Ask students whether they understand or not. Ask students listen to the song for another time and answer the following questions ~What is the theme of the song ? ~Is the song happy or sad? ~What do you like about the song? ~What don’t you like the song ?
Activity 1 Conversation. Objective; To improve their knowledge also listening skill. Time: 20 minutes. Materials: Tape recorder. Procedure: Introduce listening activity to students,put on a conversation cassette. Ask students to listen to the conversation between the man and clerk of the shop. Tell them that they should answer quiz based the questions on the conversation at the end of the listening .
Suggested answer: 1 A watch. 2 To present it to his friend on his birthday. 3 To return as he had already one. 4 Want the money back. 5 He did not have the receipt. 6 He can just exchange it. 7 An MP3 with FM radio. 8 4GB transcend. 9 Its cost is less than the watch. 10 To give the balance in cash.
Activity 2: Retell the text. Objective; To help students to improve their memory, listening skills and also speaking. Time: 15 minutes. Materials: _________. Procedure Ask students to divide in 3 groups and come to the blackboard one member of each group. Give 3 member 3 different stories and tell them to read attentively. Then take the stories back and ask them to retell to the group members in turn. The last members of each group should retell the story at the end of the activity. Which group retells full story, that group should be considered the winner group
